Why We Never Chose Soy Wax

If you've been with us for a while, you may have noticed that we only make beeswax candles. People often ask if we'll ever introduce soy wax because it's everywhere and is usually marketed as the natural option.

The short answer is no.

The longer answer is a little more interesting.

We didn't switch away from soy. We never chose it.

When we started All We Dream, we made one simple promise to ourselves. If we couldn't easily explain where an ingredient comes from and how it's made, it probably didn't belong in our products.

That rule has guided every decision since. Soy wax didn't fit.

How soy wax is actually made

Most commercial soy wax doesn't come straight from soybeans.

First, soybeans are processed into soybean oil. To extract as much oil as possible, large-scale manufacturers commonly use hexane, a petroleum-derived solvent. The oil is then refined, bleached and deodorized before it goes through hydrogenation, an industrial process that changes liquid oil into the solid wax used for candles.

The finished wax may look clean and creamy, but getting there requires several industrial processing steps. That doesn't match what we were looking for.

We like ingredients with simple stories

We're not interested in making products that sound natural. We want ingredients that actually are simple. Beeswax has one of the most beautiful production stories we know.

Honey bees build their honeycomb by producing tiny wax scales from special glands on their bodies. Beekeepers collect honey, remove the wax cappings from the honeycomb, gently melt the wax, filter out natural impurities and pour it into blocks.

That's essentially it. No solvents. No hydrogenation. No complicated industrial transformation.

Just bees, beekeepers and careful filtering.

That simplicity matters to us.

More than just a candle

When you light one of our candles, you're bringing something into your home every single day. It's part of your morning coffee. Your evening book. A quiet dinner.

We believe the materials around us should be as honest as possible. We know perfection doesn't exist, but choosing ingredients with fewer processing steps feels like the right direction.

It's a choice that aligns with everything else we make, from our soaps to our body care.
